Dr Andrew Walakira

Post-doc Research Fellow

Andrew has expertise in bioinformatics, statistics, and molecular biology. His research interests focus on applying bioinformatics and computational methods in understanding infectious diseases (HIV, malaria, TB) and metabolic-associated liver diseases.

He has done extensive work on antimalarial drug resistance. For liver diseases, Andrew’s interest is in discovering biomarkers that can be exploited as drug and diagnostic targets. He earned his PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia as a EU-Horizon 2020 fellow, a MSc in Statistics-Bioinformatics at Hasselt University in Belgium, a MSc in Molecular Biology and undergraduate in Biomedical Laboratory Technology from Makerere University in Uganda. He is committed to training, teaching and mentorship of younger scientists in his areas of expertise.
