DS-I (Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa) ODSP (Open Data Science Platform Uganda) funded by National Institute of Health (NIH) – Sep-21 to June-26

The Elwazi Project aims to harness Data Science (DS) for health discovery and innovation in Africa, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Key initiatives include:

  1. Research Hubs: Establishing research centers at selected African institutions to apply DS to health problems.
  1. DS Training Programs: Developing programs to train the next generation of African DS scientists.
  1. ELSI Research: Investigating the ethical, legal, and social implications of DS research in Africa.
  1. Open Data Science Platform: Creating a central hub for sharing resources, data, and expertise.
  1. Symposia: Hosting meetings to discuss the progress of DS research in Africa.

These initiatives aim to optimize health data usage, improve public health, build DS research capacity, and create a network of African DS researchers and institutions. The program offers a promising approach to using data science to enhance health outcomes by building scientific expertise and infrastructure in Africa.
